We did have food vending machines in our operation. In most cases we would place a few microwaves in the lunchroom and then install a sandwich/food machine.
In my opinion, these machines never made us money. They require a careful eye on the product expiry dates and the spoilage is higher than most types of vending. The selection of product was also very limited in our area. So why did we get into food vending? Simple! Many of the best volume locations demanded that we offer food vending for them.
Many of our competitors wouldn't offer food machines and therefore couldn't get in the door. We would install our food vending machine and microwaves and put up with the extra work because these were usually the highest volume accounts. We would make a huge profit on the big volume from the pop/snack/coffee/bottled water machines. We always considered the food vending machine as a cost of doing business.
Without offering these locations food vending machines we would never been able to obtain them.

Rob,
I like the way you lay things out and I am
seriously considering vending as a business, possibly a laundromat too if
I am able. As far as your site, the quick response, follow up emails and
thank yous are well appreciated from a customer's standpoint.
Take care,

Two Birds With One Stone!
Try to find people who can approve multiple locations when trying to place machines. Property management companies might respresent many apartment complexes. Some business owners have multiple locations. With one "yes" you can secure multiple profit centers.
