Mechanical vending machines have become widely seen in the past 15 years. Whether they are mechanical 7-9-11 selection snack machines, gum dispensers, soda machines or even soup dispensers.
Most of these mechanical machines are marketed through "business opportunity" seminars or exhibitions were you are dazzled more by the profit potential than the actual machines. We owned quite a few mechanical vending machines and they were usually profitable. However, the mechanical vending machine does have a downside. It is easy to "scam" these machines since they don't offer the checks and balances of an electronic coin mechanism. We have found washers, cardboard and stir sticks in the coin tray of these machines from obvious theft.
I love the promotional spin, "These machines will even operate in a power blackout." Who is going to buy a snack if all the lights are out!!
Anyway, mechanical vending machines can be a good way to start out a vending business. You can always upgrade to larger equipment as your locations mature. Just make sure the price for the mechanical vending machine is relative to their quality (i.e., really, REALLY cheap). Please don't buy a "vending package" that includes mechanical vending machines, do some more reading and research first.
You can get mechanical vending machines for mere pennies of what the bizop guys are charging!

Testimonial
Hey Rob,
please allow me a couple minutes
to thank you for giving credible, interesting,
and valuable information. Also, thank you
for continuing with your vending business
even when things looked slim and scary.
Thank you for your good advice. I am 20 years old and
I would be confident in saying that I have looked into every
opportunity, idea and concept of how to make
money in the way of entrepreneurship. From real estate to
stock market, and from franchising to salesmanship I have seen
it all "START YOUR OWN BUSINESS!, WORK FROM HOME AND LOVE IT!,
GET A FREE CAR, CELL PHONE, AND CLOTHES BY TAKING OUR SURVEY!,
SHOP AT THE PLACES YOU LOVE AND KEEP THE CLOTHES FOR FREE!,
MAKE $18 AN HOUR BY SPEAKING PUBLICLY".
I have found that the information you provide is more credible than most
of the information I have bought and looked into.
It doesn't have a lot of or any, "Rah-Rah" jargon, that most
opportunity info is loaded with. You know what I'm talking about.
Anyway, thank you again.
Thanks
for being the uncle that didn't give up.
Best Wishes to you and your wife.
Sincerely, Brandon.

Don't limit your snack machines products to just snacks!
We did well with putting "other" products in based on taking a broader look at the location. For example, toothbrushes (hotel), laundry soap (trucking company), baseball cards (apartment complex), and other personal toiletries. Be creative!
