Mechanical vending machines have become widely seen in the past 15 years. Whether they are mechanical 7-9-11 selection snack machines, gum dispensers, soda machines or even soup dispensers.
Most of these mechanical machines are marketed through "business opportunity" seminars or exhibitions were you are dazzled more by the profit potential than the actual machines. We owned quite a few mechanical vending machines and they were usually profitable. However, the mechanical vending machine does have a downside. It is easy to "scam" these machines since they don't offer the checks and balances of an electronic coin mechanism. We have found washers, cardboard and stir sticks in the coin tray of these machines from obvious theft.
I love the promotional spin, "These machines will even operate in a power blackout." Who is going to buy a snack if all the lights are out!!
Anyway, mechanical vending machines can be a good way to start out a vending business. You can always upgrade to larger equipment as your locations mature. Just make sure the price for the mechanical vending machine is relative to their quality (i.e., really, REALLY cheap). Please don't buy a "vending package" that includes mechanical vending machines, do some more reading and research first.
You can get mechanical vending machines for mere pennies of what the bizop guys are charging!

for and expect from owning a vending business. I am moving forward towards
starting a business, but feeling much more prepared than I was before.
Thank you,

Two Birds With One Stone!
Try to find people who can approve multiple locations when trying to place machines. Property management companies might respresent many apartment complexes. Some business owners have multiple locations. With one "yes" you can secure multiple profit centers.
